Mistplay is an Android app that pays you to play games. It's highly rated on the Google Play Store, with 4.5 out of 5 stars based on over a million reviews. It's a good choice if you prefer rewards for your time or progress without pay-to-play competitions, a large game selection, and relatively high payouts.

However, many other money-making game apps have similar features, and you may be able to earn more if you spread your time across different apps. Plus, you have no choice but to seek other options if you're an iPhone user like me.

We researched some of the best Mistplay alternatives that pay you to play games, complete surveys, and do other tasks. We found that Cash Giraffe, Freecash, and Scrambly are the best choices for most users seeking apps with similar functionality and redemption options.

Cash Giraffe
This Gaming App Paid Out Over $4.4 Million Last Year
Get rewarded to try out new games and apps. Free to download and use.

Product details

  • Ratings: 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google Play with over 588,000 reviews; 4.6 out of 5 stars on the App Store with over 13,000 reviews
  • Cash-out options: PayPal, gift cards, merchant discounts
  • Minimum withdrawal: $0.20 (PayPal) to $5 (gift cards)
  • Withdrawal processing fees: $0

Cash Giraffe is one of the best Mistplay alternatives for making extra cash playing games (and taking surveys) if you're not looking to be serious about how you earn. Like Mistplay, it lets you discover new games that might become your favorites and redeem your earnings as gift cards or via PayPal for flexibility.

This app stands out from Mistplay for its simpler rewards system and smaller game selection, which you might prefer if you get overwhelmed by too many options. However, you have to pay close attention to boosts and multipliers, and it can be tricky to keep track of units, points, and gems. It also enforces a two-hour daily earning limit per game, while Cash Giraffe does not.

Other standout features include iOS availability, the ability to exchange points for merchant discounts (like with Cash'Em All), and a low $0.20 cash-out threshold for PayPal.

Try Cash Giraffe instead of Mistplay if: You're an Apple user, looking to play a little more casually with a less complicated payout system, or planning to invest more than a couple of hours into a game in a day.

Pros
  • Easy to download and use
  • Multiple redemption options
  • PayPal cashouts in as little as two days
Cons
  • May require in-app purchases to reach higher levels
  • May take a long time to earn enough to cash out
  • Limited games compared to other apps.

  • Cash-out options: PayPal, gift cards, Stake.us (US only), Stake.com (international)
  • Minimum withdrawal: $0.10 to $20 (depending on the method)
  • Withdrawal processing fees: $0 for Stake and game cards; 5% for PayPal and bank transfers

Freecash  is another rewards platform that pays you to download and play mobile games and lets you cash out your earnings (called coins) via PayPal or gift cards. It receives similar app ratings as Mistplay but has a much larger user base. While Mistplay claims to have over two million active users, Freecash claims to have over 50 million. Plus, it's available on the web for flexibility.

We like that Freecash offers more ways to earn money than Mistplay, including taking surveys, watching ads, downloading apps, and completing other tasks. From experience, I can say that having multiple options motivates me to keep going and maximize my payouts. Freecash also offers more redemption options, including bank transfers and crypto payouts, which aren't that common.

Freecash stands out for its $5 sign-up bonus for downloading your first game, which is a nice perk. However, the catch is you can't withdraw that bonus until you earn $20, which could take a while. Additionally, Freecash charges a 5% processing fee on all withdrawals via PayPal or bank transfer.

Try Freecash instead of Mistplay if: You want a wider variety of money-making opportunities than just playing games, the ability to use the platform on the web, and more ways to get paid.

Cash'Em All

Great for reward options

4.6
info
Cash 'em All
Play games for cash with an app that's been downloaded over 50 million times
Free Android app that pays you for your time playing games. Cash out via PayPal or gift cards with as little as $1.

Product details

  • Ratings: 4.5 out of 5 stars rating on Google Play with over 1.43 million reviews
  • Cash-out options: PayPal, gift cards, merchant discounts
  • Minimum withdrawal: $1
  • Withdrawal processing fees: $0

Like Mistplay, Cash'Em All is an Android-only,>free rewards app that pays you for playing games and completing limited surveys. After downloading each game, you earn coins based on your playtime, and you can redeem your winnings via PayPal, gift cards, or store discounts.

The store discount option is unique for gaming apps and useful for players who frequently shop online. For example, you can take up to 74% off selected electronics at Amazon for 4,899 coins.

However, Cash'Em All offers fewer game options than Mistplay, so it may be harder to find something you enjoy enough to play consistently. Additionally, while you can make money playing games with this app, you must set realistic expectations since the payouts can be lower than with Mistplay.

For example, Cash'Em All offers retailer discounts for only around 5,000 coins, but you'll need significantly more if you want to cash out via PayPal. A $5 PayPal cashout costs 47,065 coins on Cash'Em All, compared to just 1,800 units on Mistplay.

Try Cash'Em All instead of Mistplay if: You're new to gaming rewards apps and looking for simple offers, not necessarily the most games or highest earnings, or are interested in the store discount redemption option.

gameplay screenshot

Pros
  • Small but good selection of games
  • No ads or in-app purchases
  • Unique store discount redemptions
Cons
  • Low earnings potential
  • Smaller rewards for surveys than Mistplay
  • Frequently changing rules

Scrambly

Great for diverse ways to earn

4.6
info
Scrambly.io
Earn as Much as $500/Month
Earn extra cash doing simple online tasks.

Product details

  • Ratings: 4.5 out of 5 stars on Google Play with over 93,000 reviews; 4.8 out of 5 stars on the App Store with over 39,000 reviews
  • Cash-out options: PayPal, gift cards, Google Play, Apple
  • Minimum withdrawal: $1 to $5 (depending on the method)
  • Withdrawal processing fee: $0

Scrambly is an Android app and website similar to Mistplay in that it's a get-paid-to platform primarily focused on game testing. However, it differs in having a much smaller user base and slightly lower payout potential across activities.

Since I enjoy variety, I like that Scrambly offers many paid activities, such as taking surveys, signing up for subscriptions, testing apps, and inviting others who ultimately make their first cash-out with the app. An important difference is that Scrambly emphasizes achieving quick milestones in each app you test, while Mistplay is time-based and encourages you to play each app for a little longer.

You can use Scrambly if you're at least 16 years old, so it could be a better option for younger teens (though you won't have access to every reward opportunity at that age). It also has a lower payout threshold of $1, so you can cash out sooner than you could with Mistplay (which requires a minimum of $5).

Try Scrambly instead of Mistplay if: You'd like a variety of ways to earn money, or you're between 16 and 18 and ready to try a gaming rewards app.

Scrambly

Pros
  • Variety of ways to earn
  • Affiliate program
  • Low withdrawal minimum of $1
  • Multiple redemption options
Cons
  • Not for iOS with same functionality
  • Low payouts for some activities
  • Time needed to earn higher rewards

Swagbucks

Swagbucks
Earn $1,000s in Cash or Free Gift Cards
Earn real cash and gift cards playing games and testing offers

Product details

  • Ratings: 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google Play with over 446,000 reviews; 4.4 out of 5 stars on the App Store with over 148,000 reviews
  • Cash-out options: PayPal, gift cards
  • Minimum withdrawal: $1
  • Withdrawal processing fee: $0

While Swagbucks is a popular rewards platform with many games to download and play on your phone, it's better known for online shopping and surveys. Since I do most of my shopping online and like sharing my opinions, this app has become one of my favorite ways to make money via my phone and web browser.

gameplay screenshot

In my experience, Swagbucks makes it hard to get bored, so it's easier to stick with than Mistplay. You can switch between taking surveys, participating in daily polls and trivia games, watching videos, shopping through the Swagbucks portal, earning cash back and special offers, and playing online games. The amount earned depends on the task, and 100 Swagbucks generally equals $1.

Like Mistplay, you can trade your points, called Swagbucks, for gift cards or receive your winnings via PayPal. While you need at least $25 (2,500 Swagbucks) to cash out via PayPal, gift cards typically start at $3 (300 Swagbucks). For comparison, Mistplay's gift cards generally start at $5 or $10.

While Swagbucks doesn't have as many game options as Mistplay, its payout threshold is lower for gift cards, giving you more ways to earn. However, receiving your PayPal transaction or gift card can take up to 10 business days, which is a drawback if you want quick cash.

Try Swagbucks instead of Mistplay if: You want to get paid to shop and/or take surveys and don't mind a longer wait for rewards and redemptions than with some other apps.

Pros
  • Multiple ways to make money, including shopping
  • Includes shopping offers
  • Lower cash-out minimum for gift cards
Cons
  • Must earn $25 for PayPal redemptions
  • Can take up to 10 days for redemptions
  • Can take 32 to 75 days to get shopping rewards

Rewarded Play

Great for gift cards

Product details

  • Ratings: 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google Play with over 244,000 reviews
  • Cash-out options: Gift cards
  • Minimum withdrawal: $5
  • Withdrawal processing fee: $0

Rewarded Play is another Android-only game app that lets you make money. In addition to offering limited game options, it provides a few survey options, lets you earn money by watching ads, and offers a new-user promotion for a $5 gift card after completing three tasks within the first two days after downloading.

gameplay screenshot

Rewarded Play differs from Mistplay in its emphasis on gift cards and making enough to get your first payout quickly. Based on our testing, we found that you can easily meet the requirements for the new-user promotion within a few days.

You can select your gift card immediately or book the equivalent points (about 45,000) for future use. Rewarded Play has the largest selection of gift cards we've seen in an app and offers a speedy 48-hour redemption turnaround time, making it great for users who prefer gift cards to cash.

However, it's somewhat frustrating that Rewarded Play's games require you to watch ads before progressing, unless you opt for in-game purchases. Ultimately, it's worth using Rewarded Play for the $5 bonus, especially if you also use Mistplay, but it wouldn't be the first app I open when I feel like playing a game.

Try Rewarded Play instead of Mistplay if: You want to take advantage of the $5 new-user promotion and don't mind being limited to gift card redemptions.

Pros
  • $5 new-user promotion
  • Large selection of gift cards
  • 48-hour turnaround time for gift cards
Cons
  • No other redemption options
  • Limited game selection with ads
  • No iOS app

App that didn't make the list

Here's another app like Mistplay that we didn't include in our top six.

Justplay

Justplay, developed by JustPlay GmbH, is often compared to Mistplay, and for good reason. The platform lets you earn real money by playing games, like all the others on this list. It has over 10 million downloads on Google Play with a rating of 4.4 on more than one million reviews. Having not yet tried Justplay ourselves, we can't speak much to the experience of using it to make money playing games, but we found in our research that people who have tried both say Justplay offers much less game variety than Mistplay.

Having not yet tried Justplay ourselves, we can't speak much to the experience of using it to make money playing games, but our research found that people who have tried both say Justplay offers far less game variety (30 games) than Mistplay. The app also advertises quick payouts via gift cards and PayPal.

Tips to choose an app like Mistplay

When looking for a Mistplay alternative, keep these tips in mind:

  • Compare offer availability: Mistplay is known for providing a wide variety of game offers, and little else. Many rewards platforms, like Cash Giraffe, offer more games to choose from, and some offer far more ways to earn money, including taking paid surveys, watching ads, and more. For a wider variety of offers, look to Freecash or Swagbucks.
  • Consider payout options: You can cash out with Mistplay via gift cards or PayPal. These are pretty common payout options for rewards apps like Mistplay, so it won't be hard to find apps that offer at least one of these. But if you need more options (like bank transfers) or faster payouts, start your search there.
  • Look into device availability: Mistplay only offers an Android app. If that's not a problem for you, you'll have plenty of options, including all of the Mistplay app alternatives on this list. If you need an iOS app or browser availability, look into Cash Giraffe, Freecash, Scrambly, or Swagbucks.
  • Pay attention to reviews: Mistplay gets largely positive customer reviews, so any app you're considering using alongside or instead of it should receive similarly high ratings.

More lucrative side hustle options

Of course, playing games online isn't the only way to make money. Some of the best side hustles include working on sites like TaskRabbit and Fiverr.

TaskRabbit is an online marketplace that connects skilled taskers with customers looking for help with yard work, moving, painting, TV mounting, and furniture assembly, among other tasks. It charges a $25 registration fee but allows you to set your schedule and rates.

Fiverr is especially appealing to me because it's a job board that connects freelancers with clients. It offers postings in various areas, including programming and tech, AI services, writing, video, and marketing. You can create a free profile and browse for projects that match your skills while choosing your rates. However, Fiverr takes a 20% cut of whatever you make, which is steeper than similar platforms like Upwork.

While both TaskRabbit and Fiverr are more involved than playing games on your phone, you'll likely earn more using these sites than Mistplay or one of its competitors. You also have the opportunity to create a lasting side hustle that supports you for years.

FAQs

Can I earn money by playing games?

Yes, many apps let you earn money playing games, but you must be strategic.

Pick an app with games you are interested in and that will pay you for the time you invest in the game. It often makes sense to download multiple games or more than one platform to earn more. Look for an app with reasonable payout methods and fees, and read app store reviews to help you avoid scams.

What is the best app for free money?

Many apps can help you earn money, but you should be cautious of apps that promise free money. Many apps will provide a bonus for joining or using their apps. However, an app that promises to pay you for doing nothing is likely a scam, and you should steer clear. Thoroughly research any opportunities before you provide your personal information.

Is Rewarded Play better than Mistplay?

Rewarded Play and Mistplay are legitimate apps that pay users to use their platforms. Rewarded Play has a better gift card selection than Mistplay, but Mistplay offers cash redemption via PayPal and a bigger game selection. As you research apps, pay attention to details like payout methods, the time it takes to receive your money, and minimum withdrawal requirements.

Bottom line

In our experience with Mistplay, we found that the app offers a fun way to make money playing games and completing other tasks. But Mistplay might not be your first choice for a game app, or you could be looking for another option like it to increase your earning potential with a wider selection of games and offers. There's no reason you can't, or shouldn't, use more than one.

While I can say from experience that you probably won't earn enough from these apps to pay your bills, they can still help you make enough for a special treat or to boost your emergency fund. Plus, money aside, it's sometimes fun to simply play games or try new tasks when you're bored.

Thoroughly research any platforms you consider before you sign up. Read reviews on the app stores and our in-depth product reviews to help you avoid scams and find a legit paid gaming app.
