As digital banking grows, fewer people are visiting brick-and-mortar locations for financial services. As a result, many banks have been shuttering their doors over the past few years with more slated in the future.
In fact, the U.S. Bank Branch Closures and Banking Deserts report by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia states that physical bank closures have doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic due to the lack of demand and the rise of online banking.
While mobile banking is convenient for many consumers, many depend on in-person service for certain transactions like mortgage applications or to get cash from an ATM. Increasing closures also introduce the possibility of banking deserts where communities may lack access to these traditional services.
From March 16 through March 22, 2025, 32 banks closed across the U.S., as reported by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's (OCC) weekly bulletin, including several PNC Bank locations.
If you're trying to make money moves, you might wonder if your PNC branch is one of the 17 recently shuttered locations. Check the following list to see if your local PNC Bank is on it.

PNC Bank will reportedly close locations in 6 more states in 2025
/images/2024/04/05/pnc-bank-entrance-sign-logo.jpg)
Allegedly, the company is set to close branches in six states in February, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times.
While the exact locations are unknown, it has been reported that the location at 2085 E University Drive in Auburn, Alabama, will be shutting its doors.
FinanceBuzz reached out for a comment to confirm these closures but is still awaiting a response.
Other banks are closing branches

Not only are PNC Bank customers facing the closure of their favorite branches, but several other banks have also announced that they are shutting down locations.
These include Bank of America, Huntington National Bank, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo. Make sure to check out their list of upcoming closures in case you need to prepare yourself financially and possibly look into other banks if you prefer to have in-person service.
Why are bank branches closing?

The ability to bank online means customers don't need to visit bank branches as much as they used to.
During the pandemic, many people who previously stopped by their local bank branch quickly moved to online banking, which likely has hastened the demise of brick-and-mortar bank locations.
The company also plans to open new locations
/images/2024/04/05/pnc-bank-branch.jpg)
While some customers are losing their local branches, others will be gaining one. According to a PNC Bank press release, the company has plans to open over 100 new branches and renovate 200 more existing ones across six states.
This will take place in 12 cities across the U.S. over the span of five years.
PNC previously announced the expansion would take place in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, and San Antonio but will now also expand into Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh, and Tampa.
Bottom line

These PNC branch closings might be inconvenient, but there are plenty of other places you can go to.
Alternatively, you may want to open a new bank account with a different bank with more branches in your area. If you prefer to stick with PNC, check to see if there are other branches nearby that can fill your needs.
